HYVOL® FAQ’s

  • What are HYVOL® products and what are they made from?

HYVOL® products are a range of surface water catchment channels designed for managing stormwater runoff. They are manufactured from Glass-Fibre Reinforced Concrete (GRC) for the channels, and come with hot-dip galvanised steel grates.

What are the main applications for HYVOL® drainage systems?

HYVOL® drainage systems are versatile and suitable for a wide range of applications, including residential driveways, commercial parking areas, industrial sites, public infrastructure projects, and areas with light to heavy vehicular traffic. They are designed to manage stormwater runoff in urban environments, redirecting surface water away from roads, pavements, and building foundations.

What sizes and grate options are available for HYVOL® channels?

HYVOL® channels come in different sizes to accommodate various drainage needs and flow rates. There are different grate options depending on the channel type.

    ● RAS channels use 'F' grates

    ● RBS channels use 'FH' grates (Auckland Transport approved for Vehicle Crossings),

    ● RF channels use ‘DF’ grates (special order).

These options allow you to choose the best solution for your specific installation needs and traffic requirements.

  • What are the key benefits of using GRC for HYVOL® channels?

GRC offers several key advantages: it is more durable and resistant to corrosion than traditional materials, resulting in 20% less damage over time; it's significantly lighter (up to 75%) than precast concrete, reducing transportation and installation costs; it's a non-plastic alternative, making it more environmentally sustainable with lower energy consumption during manufacture; it has high compressive, tensile, and impact strength; and its superior flexural performance reduces the likelihood of cracking.

How easy are HYVOL® channels to install and are there any special features?

HYVOL® channels are designed for easy installation. They are lightweight, making them easier to handle on-site, and the grates clip or slot into place, simplifying the process. Some channels come with lugs to tie into adjacent paving for enhanced integration.

What kind of maintenance is required for HYVOL® drainage systems?

Regular cleaning is recommended to ensure optimal performance of HYVOL® drainage systems. This includes removing debris from the grates and periodically flushing the channels. The frequency of maintenance will depend on site conditions and usage, however GRC requires minimal maintenance due to its inherent durability.

  • Are spare parts available and can the channels be customised?

Yes, spare parts such as grates, end caps, and connectors are available, making it easy to replace damaged components without replacing the entire system. Additionally, HYVOL® offers various channel types and grate options to accommodate different project requirements and can be customised.

Where are HYVOL® products manufactured, and are they compliant with local regulations?

HYVOL® products are manufactured in Auckland, New Zealand by Liquidstone Ltd, specifically designed for local conditions. They comply with relevant AS/NZS regulations, and the FH Grate systems have been approved by Auckland Transport for use in public infrastructure projects.
